With the political will of the Head of State Mr. Ilham Aliyev, in our country, by carrying out fighting against corruption toughly, special importance is attached in international cooperation in this area. Our country is constantly involved in its work as one of the organizers of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), which unites 140 countries.
On the eve of the International Anti-Corruption Day - December 9, "No for Corruption" monument, shaped like a hand of steel and symbolizing the consolidation of efforts in the fight against corruption was unveiled in Putrajaya, Malaysia s administrative centre. This monument, built with the support of Qatar s state, is the third one following the monument unveiled in Geneva in 2016 and last year in Vienna. Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed, Emir of Qatar Tammim bin Hamad Al Thani, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Yuriy Fedotov attended the ceremony. Fikrat Mammadov, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council, being IAACA Vice President attended the event as a special guest. Before the ceremony Minister of Justice met with Emir of Qatar, Malaysian Prime Minister and UN High Representative.
Then, the Minister participated in the presentation of the International Anti-Corruption Award, initiated by the Emir of Qatar. At the event awards which embodies the monument, were presented solemnly for application of innovative practices in combating corruption, conducting fundamental scientific analyzes and participation of youth in anti-corruption activities.
In those days, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities was held in Putracaya. The event focused on key issues of the organization s activities, particularly the changes to the Constitution of the Association, the prospective program of the organization, financial and other organizational issues.
F. Mammadov made speeches at the meeting and informed about preventive measures against corruption as the priority of state policy in Azerbaijan, including citizens-satisfying activity of the brand of Azerbaijan ASAN service, proposals were presented on discussed issues and unanimously adopted.
Also, the new edition of the IAACA Constitution has been agreed and future actions have been identified, including the establishment of IAACA s special financial fund to support victims of corruption.
The participants appreciated the significant contribution of our country to international anti-corruption activities, the development of the organization and the expansion of anti-corruption cooperation.
At the same time, a special presentation was accompanied by video and photo slides in connection with the declaration of 2018 as the Year of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The Minister of Justice spoke about the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the progressive democratic decisions adopted at that time, as well as the today s achievements of our country. Particularly, the centennial development path of the Azerbaijani justice, the national leader Heydar Aliyev s care for the Azerbaijani justice were noted, information were given on the progressive justice and judicial-legal reforms led by President Ilham Aliyev.
Appreciation of the success of our country in this area by influential international organizations, as the UN, the Council of Europe, the World Bank, the International Committee of the Red Cross and others, as well as being awarded the "Crystal Scale" competition prize of Council of Europe was noted, as a manifestation of the next confession of our progress in the international arena, recently election of Azerbaijani representative to the post of president of European Commission for Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) was emphasized.
The painful truths of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were brought to the attention of the participants during the speech.
After the presentation, IAACA Executive Committee members presented memorial symbols dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan s justice.
During the visit, the Minister of Justice held meetings with the heads of law enforcement agencies of several countries and held useful negotiations on joint activities in the field of anti-corruption.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Malaysia Gali Allahverdiyev attended the event.
