JUDICIAL RELATIONS ARE EXPANDING BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND RUSSIA


Within the improvement of strategic partnership and cooperative relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russian Federation, the sides attach great importance to strengthening the legal relations. A Transaction was signed in 2001 on cooperation between the ministries of Justice and was given impetus to broadening the legal cooperation, strengthened the legal base, as well asimplementedreciprocal visits of delegations and joint meetings.

The Minister of Justice of Russia Alexander Konovalov visited Azerbaijan on June 9. Honoring the dear memory of great leader Heydar Aliyev in Honorary Alley, the Russian minister laid a wreath at the grave. As well as honored the dear memory of prominent ophthalmologist scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and laid flowers at the grave.Also visiting the graves of compatriots in Alley of Martyrs who gave their lives for freedom of Azerbaijan and territorial integrity, the guest laid a wreath in front of the Eternal Torch.

During the visit, A.Konovalov met the Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan, Chairman of Judicial-Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov.

Having stressed the efficient relations of friendship and cooperation between these countries, the Minister noted significant role of the head of states in the improvement of these relations and he reminded his meeting held in Sankt- Peterburg city in autumn of last year within the Annual Conference of International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.

The Minister informed on the large-scale judicial and legal reforms implemented under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan and noted that selection of judges in Azerbaijan is appreciated as an example in Europe and just that day test exam was held for judge candidates in common auditorium at the most transparent conditions by broadcasting online via internet. As well as he spoke of the development of judicial, including penitentiary system, improving the legislation, expanding the rights of prisoners and defendants and on other work.

The guest stressed that historical and friendly relations successfully develop in various fields, including in political, economic and humanitarian spheres, the ministries of justice operate mutually and intensively, including cooperate on legal aid serving to citizen s satisfaction and the work load has been increased in this field. Having said that wide perspectives exist for the development of legal relations, A.Konovalov noted the significance of exchange of experience for both sides.

Discussing the future priorities of reciprocal activity, proposals were put forward on the fields of interest and made an agreement on implementing joint measures.

The guest got acquainted with the Justice History Museum, as well as expositions dedicated to Azerbaijani-Russian relations and the Minister of Justice of Russia was presented special magazines depicting modern judicial activity and legal relations between two countries.

Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin attended the meeting.
